Where were the great teachers at when I was at school?

I have been doing some indigenous artwork with high school kids at my sons school on Fridays till end of term. It is so funny to hear kids talk these days. Very similar to when I was in high school (you know ,we thought we knew everything and were the only ones that mattered). In the many years since leaving school, I have experienced so much - Teenage pregnancy, an abusive heroin addicted partner which resulted in a terrible split, travelling, bipolar disorder, study, falling in and out of love too many times, settling down with my wonderful partner in our home with our four kids.If someone had told me 15 years ago that all of this would happen to me i would have laughed it off.
When I was a high school student, our teachers did nothing positive to help shape us into well balanced adults. Basically if you did not achieve results or were a bit of a smart arse you were a waste of space. At my sons school (which is the same school I went to years ago) they have a few teachers who I would've loved to have taught me. You can see that kids enjoy being around them and these teachers will make a positive impact on their lives -even if these kids don't know it yet.
