William Gibson - New Book Mentions Banksy and Hackney

If you enjoy science fiction then your already familiar with world renowned author William Gibson. The man whom created the term 'CyberPunk' and wrote a library of classic works within the genre. This isn't a review on the book it's posted purely because Banksy and Hackney are mentioned in Gibson's latest epic Zero History. One of the main characters pays a visit to Hackney and another character owns some Banksy works and adores the artist...Wayne nearly fell off his bike when he heard it on the ipod...

Graffiti Writers Warning 2 Big Brother's 'Sam' in Hackney Gazette

A number of recent street art graffiti enthusiasts that have subscribed to the gazette for decades have been keeping LSD up to date on related articles that feature in the local rag. Every time an art piece features in the gazette we get texts and pristine copies of the newspaper for our archives. So first we should say thank you to those wonderful 'oldish' ladies for closely scrutinising their favorite newspapers in search of the latest painted piece. Meanwhile back on the ranch, LSD recently reported that Team Eastside warned big brothers 'fake graffiti writer'  Sam to stay out of Hackney otherwise he'll get painted head to toe (SEE HERE). The story was picked up by the Hackney Gazette and for a change we got loads of texts from our eager 'old' ladies announcing that 'LSD is in the 'ackney' As most of you know we don't do car crash TV unless it mentions street art graffiti of course...

Banksy Mistaken Identity - Mantis New Piece

NEWS in London

Friday's Hackney Gazette featured an article and photograph of a stencil which was accredited to Banksy. Street art photographers both on personal and business levels, made haste to the spot in Hackney hoping to shoot the art before the council or taggers destroyed it. LSD's Wayne Anthony was onsite shortly after hearing of the Gazette's announcement. He met couple chaps from the magazine Crack for your Eye's and almost had s scrap with a busker who tried to bully the lads into giving money. The busker accused the lads of exploiting Hackney which is laughable considering Wayne's connection with the area.

Eventually the true identity of the artist was revealed as Mantis. We immediately contacted Mantis requesting an interview which he agreed to do and will feature in the next issue...

We've been recently told that the Invasion Monsters in Issue Two were created by Post Morten. We publish hundreds of photographs in each issue so tracking down all the artists names is a job in itself. We'd have to become expects in man hunting, CSI conditioned and prepared to trudge the streets at night in all weathers. So if you know the names of artists featured in LSD please contact and let us know... We're not saying your grasses, informers or snitches...Credit due where Credit due...

Initially like thousands of others we were lured into group-think and quickly assumed it was our boy which actually goes to show that many people are in-waiting for a Banksy to appear. Within half hour of posting the original blog we've fallen back into group-think and now say its a Mantis piece... Hope we're right this time as its getting bloody embarrassing...

For it’s third exhibition the Dalston SuperStore brings to you a sensory fête from the 2 pioneers of the Scratch Art: Kassim Bay and Dino De La Vega.

It is not a duo you can put a label on and put into a box, apart from a light box maybe.

The history of their practice stems form graffiti art but has become vast and varied in it’s development; this research has brought them to an interesting head and a scratchadelic body of work. On surface level the work could easily be read simply as typography, graphic art and a style of graffiti. But on closer inspection the work is a contrast of a delicate process and fragile materials representing imagery of pop and subversive culture. Transcending the usual street based art work and becoming deeper and richer in it’s monochromatic play with light, sight and touch.

The artists have a deep interest in the senses and how they are used, or not used in the cases of the physically challenged. This lead to the investigation and use of braille in their practice ,which then gave birth to the element of relief in their work and the process of taking away to create something new. The work serves to stimulate the senses involving sight and touch, and on viewing it you can’t help but feel the presence of each pieces sound track, derived from the context in which the subject is taken.

"We Scratch Art" involves many interesting elements into their practice, fundamentally the fame shy artists work is humorous and conceptual, but firstly made to be experienced and enjoyed.
Come and see these mysterious masterpieces who’s construction process is a top secret, and witness how the work was born from the street but would now be just as suited to some modern urban interior; and don’t expect Graffiti!
